I got a root canal yesterday. It was pretty interesting because this is the second one I've had, and the previous one took two visits whereas this one only took one visit, about an hour long. It was basically like a filling. Plus, the doctor had a filmless x-ray machine that immediately displayed the image on a computer screen nearby, so he could check on his progress as the session progressed. Neato.
There was a power outage last night. We lit candles and used flashlights as you might expect. By the way, cats don't understand fire. FYI. Well, Ash does now; he jumped up on the table and swished his tail right through the flame of a candle before we could stop him. He's a longhair, by the way... guess what happened? Fortunately I was right there and was able to blow out his flaming tail hairs. What a horrible smell. Oh how I wish I had a photo, it was horrifying and very funny at the same time.
At least I know that I can log in as root and type "shutdown -h now" blindly (the monitors are not on the UPS!) to shut down our linux boxes if need be. Gotta get that serial cable action going so the UPSs can talk to the servers and say "shut down, my battery is almost dead."
The X-Files (one of my favorite TV shows) is totally turning into a soap opera. I can barely follow it now. Who is the father of Scully's baby? What about Monica Reyes, the psychic FBI lady who reappeared; where has she been? What about Krycek and the nanobots, and the cure for what was ailing Mulder after his reappearance and apparent death? There are a ton of loose ends and unexplored plot twists. The show has devolved into a bunch of 30 second scenes between two of the (now) 6 or 7 main characters, where they express themselves vagueley and fail to make any progress towards understanding. Everybody is tense and confused and nobody trusts anyone else, except for the two men who trust and are trusted by Scully: Mulder and Doggett. I hope this clears up soon or I'm going to lose my patience. I hope Chris Carter knows what he's doing.

I resigned from Sapient; today is my last day. I worked there for 11 weeks and was never on a billable project. I have leads on various contracts and full-time jobs, so I'm not too worried.
I updated my resume again.
